Land Rover’s recent pledge to invest in Research and Development is an exciting boost for everyone affiliated with the brand; the ripples of which will have a longstanding positive consequence. Many of the new jobs will allow the company to invest time and money in an ambitious plan to deliver "40 significant product actions over the next five years" which may include new models or derivatives of existing cars.
This news will also have an impact for JamesFrench.com's customer base, who enjoy choosing from the wide selection of quality used Land and Range Rovers from our Oxfordshire courtyard. We have already seen the impact of the New Discovery 4 - with demand outstripping supply - we know that as soon as one lands on the forecourt, it won’t be there for long. We expect this new round of development to maintain sales demand for Land Rovers, and to bolster our range of quality used vehicles, so our customers can be assured that we will always have a great selection available for them.
Many of the new jobs have been stimulated by the demand for Land Rovers in China and India. China is soon to open its 100th JLR dealership which is a success story for the brand in growing markets. However, though Land Rover may be shifting gear they are not shifting focus, as they have chosen to invest in Solihull, where nearly 5,000 employees currently work, rather than moving production aboard. This latest decision comes on top of the announcements in April for 1,000 newly created engineering jobs in the West Midlands region, with the majority of engineers now in position at Whitley and Gaydon. Furthermore, roughly 1,500 apprenticeship jobs have been created in Halewood, Merseyside. We have our own apprentices here at JamesFrench.com, and strive to keep on top of industry developments and to maintain a good relationship with Land Rover. In this spirit we have had an apprentice attend training at Land Rover’s HQ at Gaydon for many years - an investment we believe pays off for our business and our customers.
James French:
“We at JamesFrench.com have had a number of apprentices on the factory training scheme at Gaydon since 2006, I feel it is essential and a responsibility to our future to invest in the young engineers of tomorrow. Land Rover has shown phenomenal success in recent years with the UK now centre for innovation with advanced engineering expertise attracting major corporations to invest in the UK. It’s a testament to the skills and dedication of the whole JLR workforce. Jaguar Land Rover is a brilliant example of a business that is investing in skills for the future”.
