Welcome to JamesFrench.com

Our new, improved JamesFrench.com website launched in May 2011. We wanted to freshen up the site and bring it more in-line with our surroundings, whilst also providing both new and repeat customers with helpful and relevant news from James French and Land Rover. We aim to service the farming and service-based industries as well as local visitors and those from further afield in the Cotworlds (e.g. Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire) who are looking for a Land Rover for their family or daily commute. As such we've ventured into the world of social media to encourage our customers to exchange hints and tips, as well as their personal Land Rover stories. We hope you like what you see!

On the edge of the Cotworlds, Standlake is a vibrant community that benefits from great transport links with Oxford, and the A34 and A40 within easy reach. We've been at our current JamesFrench premises for just over 22 years, sharing the space with horse stables owned by James's wife. In our idyllic location, you'll find an expansive collection of Range Rovers including the Classic range, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and Defender vehicles - some nearly new, some slightly older. All are showcased in the Land Rover Range section of the site.

About James French

James has been involved with Land Rovers for 21 years, buying his first model in the late 1980s. His interest started at the family car business on Cumnor Hill in Oxford. As a 13 year old in the school holidays he washed cars for his father and uncle, and after a brief spell of selling furniture, came back to the family firm as a car salesman. He opened his own business at just 21 and called it Highwheel Motors. Specializing in estate cars and 4x4's, it slowly evolved into the James French Specialist 4x4 Centre at the Standlake premises.

Over the years the business has grown to become one of the best known Land Rover Specialists in the country, with over 400 vehicles sold every year. James has always had a fondness for interesting and unusual vehicles– over 50 G4 vehicles have passed through Standlake over the years, as have the Anniversary models, the SVX, various Limited Editions and our famous soft top conversions. And who buys them? Pop stars, sports personalities, F1 and sports team owners are all regulars, but James and his team enjoy talking cars with the local farmers and game keepers as much as they do with their more famous clients.

Steve Buck, the company's General Manager, has worked with James since he first opened Highwheel Motors all those years ago, and has worked full time at Standlake for nearly 20 years. As you'd expect, this long-standing association has a positive effect on the running of the company including quick communication, and a shared set of ethical business values. Both James and Steve firmly believe in running a fair and conscientious car specialist dealership, providing quality at all times, and respecting their customers. By doing so, James French continues to be the best in its field.
