Land Rover G4 Challenge
Adventure is at the heart of Land Rover and James French.com (James’s penchant for off-road motorbike racing is not for the faint-hearted!). The Land Rover G4 Challenge - originally the Camel Trophy - was created to showcase the full capabilities of every Land Rover model and the tenacity of the teams competing in them.
Each team wishing to enter has to endure a selection criteria lasting 18 months and ending with one final bruising event in the UK. The teams need to show their adaptability and fitness across events such as mountain biking, kayaking, rock-climbing, abseiling and trail running, but they also need precision behind the wheel, manoeuvring their Land Rovers across some of the world’s toughest terrain. For each part of the challenge Land Rover aims to visit some of the most unusual, remote and beautiful parts of the planet - from downtown New York to Australia, Laos and Bolivia.
Unfortunately due to the global economic downturn the 2009 G4 Challenge had to be cancelled (though Land Rover and the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies intend to develop their partnership further and aim to raise over £1million over the next two events). However, seven vehicles had already been designed and prepared in anticipation of the trip - two Defenders, two Discovery 3s (LR3s), two Freelander 2s (LR2) and one Range Rover) - and at JamesFrench.com we currently have one of these Discoverys sitting on our forecourt!
Its Tangiers Orange paintwork and bolt-on accessories make it stand out, with extras including roof racks, extra lighting and a winch. It’s a truly one-off opportunity to own an extraordinary vehicle without the typical mileage on the clock.
